Profile of Máire Hoctor:

Máire Hoctor is a native of Nenagh town and was elected as a Fianna Fáil T.D. for North Tipperary in 2002 and again in 2007. 

Máire began life in politics as a local Councillor - "my time working as a local Councillor has served me well when it comes to addressing the worries and concerns of people of all ages in the community.  While I was a student I worked with children and adults with disabilities and wanted to get involved to push for facilities and resources".

Biography:

1981-85:  Attended Pontifical University St. Patrick's College Maynooth taking a BA Th HDE.
1991-2002: Teacher of Religious Education & Irish at St. Joseph's CBS Secondary School, Nenagh.
1994: Elected to Nenagh Town Council.
1995-96:
Cathaoirleach of Nenagh Town Council.
1997: Worked in a Kabbutz in Israel and as volunteer in Nigeria.
1999: Elected to Nenagh Town Council and North Tipperary County Council.
2000: Chair and director of Nenagh Community Reparation Project & First  Chairperson.
2002: Elected Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary.
2002-2007: Member of the Oireachtas Committee on Education & Science.
2002-2007:

Government Convenor of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice,  Equality, Defence & Women's Rights.

2004-2007: Vice Chairperson of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture & Food.
2006-2007: Director of Young Nenagh Project.
2007: Re-elected for Fianna Fáil in the Dáil constituency of North Tipperary.
2007: Appointed Minister of State with Responsibility for Older People.
2008:
Re-appointed Minister of State with Responsibility for Older People.
