23/02/2010 Co. Council must take over water supply for Hollyford - Hoctor

The future management of the water supply for Hollyford must be taken over by the Co. Council, according to local TD Máire Hoctor. This call by Deputy Hoctor comes in the wake of a 'drying up' of practically all the group water schemes in the Hollyford area early this week.

'We have seen where last week, the supplies from the local group water schemes ran low in the upper area over Hollyford village, this week we see the lower village area without water also' claims the local Deputy,

While the group water schemes have been managed excellently in the area, the supplies are diminishing and without an overhaul of the system, with a complete takeover by the Council, it appears that the supplies will be intermittent and not fully reliable' she states.

'Through my discussions with the local authority, I am convinced that this is the only way forward to ensure a steady supply for the people of Hollyford' she adds.

‘I am assured, in the meantime that local households will be provided with temporary supplies by the local authority until this is sorted once and for all'

' I am calling on the Council to move now towards a takeover of the supply: local businesses not alone local households are suffering as a result until this necessary work is undertaken' says Deputy Hoctor.

'I will assist the Council in every way possible to secure necessary funding, if needed, to make this a reality' concludes Deputy Hoctor.
