Tipperary North Dáil Constituency includes North Tipperary local authority area, some areas within South Tipperary local authority area and some areas within Offaly local authority areas see map.     

North Tipperary local authority is itself divided into four Electoral Areas which form the units upon which the County Council organise the general administeration of the constituency; each of these areas is divided further into a number of Electoral Divisions see map.  These boundaries are revised every few years.

North Tipperary form part of the Mid-West region along with County Limerick and County Clare.  The Midwest, as defined in the National Spacial Strategy 2002-2020, is a regional authority and administrative unit within which many public services are organised.  South Tipperary County forms part of the Southeast while County Offaly forms part of the Midlands region.
